4.1 Understanding Thermal Equilibrium

We can not use Laboratory thermometer to measure our body temperature. Why? Termometer makmal tidak boleh digunakan untuk mengukur suhu badan. Kenapa?

Answer : There is no ‘kink’ in laboratory thermometer. Therefore the temperature will fall as soon as we remove the thermometer from the mouth & we will not be able to measure the correct temperature of the body.

Why is mercury used in thermometer? Mengapakah merkuri digunakan di dalam thermometer? ………………………………………………………………..
Answer : Mercury is used in thermometer because of following reasons:
i) It does not stick to the walls of capillary tube.
ii) Its silvery shine helps us to see temperature     accurately.
iii) Its expansion is uniform.
iv) It does not vaporize easily.

What would you choose & why? Anda diberi pilihan ketika musim sejuk untuk menggunakan satu selimut tebal atau dua selimut nipis yang digabungkan bersama. Yang manakah akan anda pilih dan kenapa?

Answer: We prefer two thin blankets joined together because the air trapped between two blankets acts as an insulator and does not allow the body heat to escape. 4.1 Understanding Specific Latent Heat Aras : Menilai Why does 100°C steam is more injurious to the skin than boiling water? Mengapakah 100°C wap akan menyebabkan kecederaan yang lebih teruk kepada kulit daripada air mendidih?

Answer : The boiling point of water is 100 degrees Celsius.

At this temperature the water will begin to change from the

liquid state to the gas state. In order for this change to take

place, additional energy is required. In fact, every kg of liquid

water requires 2.26×106 Joules of heat energy just to convert it

to steam. This is called the Lantent Heat of Vaporization. During

the conversion process, temperature does not increase. It is,

therefore, possible to have both liquid water and steam that exist

at 100 degrees Celsius. While they both would exist at the same

temperature, the steam would have a lot more heat energy due to

the additional 2.26×106 Joules per kilogram of heat energy that has

been absorbed.

The shopkeeper found that the stock of all the shoes decrease and he needs to order new stock from the manufacturer.

Tuan punya kedai itu mendapati bahawa stok semua saiz kasutnya telah berkurangan dan dia perlu membuat pesanan baru daripada syarikat pengedar kasut.

 Which size of the shoes should the shopkeeper order the most? Explain your answer.

Nyatakan saiz kasut yang manakah perlu dipesan dengan bilangan yang terbanyak oleh tuan punya itu. Berikan alasan anda.

  1. A printing company prints diary and calendar. The amount of diary and calendar that could be printed in one day is 200 copies. The company gets order of at least 50 dairy and 30 calendars in a day. If the profit of each dairy and calendar is RM 1.00 and RM 2.00 respectively, find the amount of the dairy and the calendar must be printed to get the maximum profit. What is the maximum profit gained from the sales of diary and calendar?

Sebuah syarikat percetakan mencetak diari dan calendar. Bilangan diari dan calendar yang dapat dicetak dalam sehari ialah 200 buah. Syarikat itu mendapat pesanan untuk sekurang-kurangnya 50 buah diari dan 30 buah calendar dalam sehari. Jika keuntungan yang diperoleh dari sebuah diari dan sebuah calendar ialah RM1.00 dan RM2.00 masing-masing, cari bilangan diari dan calendar yang harus dicetak dalam sehari untuk memperolehi keuntungan maksimum. Berapakah keuntungan  maksimum hasil penjualan diari dan calendar itu.

 

Answer : 50 diaries and 150 calendar, k=350

Jawapan : 50 diari dan 150 kalendar  k = 350

 

  1. The amount of residents in a village is 5600 in year 1990. Given that the amount of residents after n years is Find which year will the amount of residents reached 10,000 people by the first time.

             Bilangan penduduk sebuah kampung pada awal tahun 1990 ialah 5600 orang. Diberi                bilangan penduduk selepas n tahun ialah orang, cari pada tahun manakah bilangan                  penduduk akan mencapai 10,000 orang untuk kali pertama.

 Answer :

  1. A house is built on a triangular land. Two sides of the land measured 32m and 24m respectively, both sides form an angle of 85°. A wire fence would be built surrounding the land. Find the length of wire needed to built the fence.

             Sebuah rmah dibina di atas sebidang tanah yang berbentuk segi tiga. Dua sisi tanah                  itu masing-masing berukuran 32m dan 24 m dan bertemu pada satu sudut . Suatu                        pagar akan didirikan di sekeliling tanah tersebut. Cari panjang dawai pagar yang                        diperlukan.

  1. The monthly profit of a company is calculated as :

P = -(1/2)(x^3) + 96x  + 1000

at which x represents the amount of workers. Find :

  • The amount of workers needed so that the company can gain maximum profit
  • The maximum profit of that month.

       Keuntungan bulanan bagi sebuah syarikat pengeluaran makanan diberi oleh  dengan              mewakili bilangan pekerja. Cari

  • Bilangan pekerja yang diperlukan supaya syarikat mendapat keuntungan maksimum
  • Nilai keuntungan maksimum sebulan.

  1. Five workers in a firm receive the salary as below:

Lima orang pekerja di sebuah firma menerima gaji bulatan seperti berikut.

                                 1700, 1750, 1800, 1825, 3250

 

(a) Find the mean and the median of the workers’ salary.

(b) Name which central tendency  is more suitable to represent the firm’s salary.

(c) The employer would like to give a rise in the workers’ salary at 10% based on the central tendency. As the employer, which central tendency would you choose?

  • Cari min dan median bagi gaji bulanan pekerja firma tersebut
  • Nyatakan sukatan yang lebih sesuai digunakan untuk mewakili gaji bulanan firma itu
  • Majikan firma itu bercadang untuk memberi kenaikan gaji sebanyak 10% untuk setiap pekerja berdasarkan sukatan kecenderungan memusat yang dipersetujui oleh semua pekerja. Sebagai majikan firma itu, sukatan yangmana akan dipersetujui?

  1. The amount of enery, K, calories for a type of food is given the equation K=12l + 180, at which l is the fat composition in gram.

             Jumlah tenaga, K kalori, bagi sejenis makanan diberi oleh persamaan   dengan l ialah              kandungan lemak dalam g.

(a)  If a graph of  K to l is drawn on a Cartesian plane, state

(i)          The quantity which is represented by the gradient of the graph

(ii)          The quantity which is represented by the y-axis.

(b)  If the sample of the food contains 540 calories of energy, find the fat                                        composition of the food.

  • Jika satu graf K melawan l dilukiskan pada satah cartesan, nyatakan
  • Kuantiti yang diwakili oleh kecerunan graf itu
  • Kuantiti yang diwakili oleh pintasan y
  • Jika suatu sampel makanan itu didapati mengandungi 540 kalori tenaga, cari kandungan lemak makanan itu.

Jawapan : (i) jumlah tenaga dalam setiap gram lemak dalam makanan itu

  1. The blood pH value could be measured by Henderson-Hasselbalch equation, which is

pH = 6.1 + logB -logC

 *log= log base 10

At which, the B represents bicarbonate concentration and C represents                                         concentration of carbonic acid in the blood. If the bicarbonate concentration in                         someone’s blood of pH 7.2 is 25 mol per liter, find the concentration of carbonic acid             in his blood.

            pH darah seseorang boleh dicari dengan menggunakan model Henderson –                                     Hasselbalch, iaitu  dimana B mewakili kepekatan bikarbonat dan C mewakili                                   kepekatan asid karbonik dalam darah. Jika kepekatan bikarbonat dalam darah                           seseorang pada pH 7.2 ialah 25mol per liter, cari kepekatan asid karbonik dalam                          darahnya.

 

Answer : 1.986 mol per liter

 

 

  1. A goat farmer wants to build a farm which can occupy the maximum number of goat. He bought a 100m wire to fence up a square land. Find the length and width of the farm so that it occupy the maximum area.

           Seorang penternak kambing ingin membina satu kandang yang boleh mengandungi                  sebilangan maksimum kambing peliharaannya. Dia membeli 100 m panjang dawai                    bagi memagari satu kandang berbentuk segi empat tepat itu.  Carikan panjang dan                  lebar kandang supaya keluasan kandang itu adalah terbesar mungkin.

Answer:

Length: 25, width=25

 panjang = 25, lebar = 25
